Cognitive bias

Narrative fallacy

Also known as: Story bias · Narrative bias
Common#17 of 131 by how common ← All cognitive biases
Dobelli #13

What it is

Weaving scattered facts into a tidy cause-and-effect story, and trusting the story because it is coherent rather than because it is true.

Example "He dropped out, struggled, and then, because of grit, succeeded", ignoring luck and everyone else who tried the same.
