Logical fallacy

Whataboutism

Also known as: Whataboutery
Very common#3 of 71 by how common ← All logical fallacies

What it is

Responds to an accusation or question by raising a different, usually unrelated, wrong done by someone else ("what about...?"). It shifts the subject instead of answering and is a common form of tu quoque or red herring.

Example "You criticize our budget? What about the mess your party left in 2010?"
