Logical fallacy

Poisoning the well

Fairly common#32 of 71 by how common ← All logical fallacies

What it is

Discredits a person in advance so that anything they later say will be dismissed. The attack comes before the argument is made, so the argument never gets a fair hearing.

Example "Before he speaks, remember that he has been wrong about everything for years."
