Logical fallacy

Ad hominem

Also known as: Attacking the person · Personal attack · Argumentum ad hominem
Very common#1 of 71 by how common ← All logical fallacies

What it is

Rejects a claim by attacking the person who makes it (their character, motives or circumstances) instead of addressing the reasoning or evidence. Whether the speaker is flawed has no bearing on whether the claim is true.

Example "Why listen to her budget proposal? She went bankrupt once."
